Members of the Port Haney Neighbourhood Change Initiative will host Port Haney Day on September 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The celebration will take place at Haney House (11612 224 Street) and the nearby Brickwood Park and feature historical displays, tours of Haney House and the neighbourhood, games for children and door prizes.
Everyone is welcome, especially residents and former residents of Port Haney. The event, conceived as a "meet your neighbour" opportunity, has been organized by a volunteer committee of residents with the support of the Maple Ridge Museum, staff from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks and Recreation, and local businesses including the Times newspaper.
The Port Haney Neighbourhood Change Initiative was launched in spring 2010 by the District of Maple Ridge to engage Port Haney residents in a discussion about the area's issues and changing character. Other activities have included the launch of a traffic and safety committee and the clean-up of a possible future park space. The initiative is chaired by two long-time residents and its agenda is driven by residents who wish to improve their community and foster an environment that is inclusive, holistic and safe for all.
